Professor Dr.-Ing. habil. Elmar Breitbach has significantly contributed to the development of Adaptronics over the last 25 years. In close contact with congenial partners, primarily in the US and Japan, he succeeded in increasingly transferring the new technology from an initially predominantly scientific niche existence to industrial applications. Adaptronics played a decisive role in his professional activity as Director of the Institute of Composite Structures and Adaptive Systems at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) e. V., Braunschweig, as professor at the Technical University Braunschweig as well as at the private university of Göttingen/Stade.
He is one of the two Managing Directors of Adaptronics International GmbH, which was founded on November 18th, 2009. While the Buchholz site with its proximity to major industry and international aerospace technology is responsible for research, development and strategy, the Hann.-Münden production site offers an ideal logistical position with excellent suppliers in the immediate vicinity.
Dipl.-Ing. Harald Breitbach, also Managing Director of Adaptronics International GmbH, has managed the Buchholz site since 01.07.2010. He had already intensively engaged with the key technology of Adaptronics during his studies and later in a company in a related field. He then worked for a major European aerospace company for almost a decade, where he was responsible for the solution of acoustic problems, for which he also made use of Adaptronics.
The idea of self-reacting and self-adaptive structural systems has increasingly fascinated researchers and developers since the middle of the 1980s. Adaptronic components – e.g. for airplanes, space travel systems, but also machine tools and automobiles – are developed especially at universities and research institutes, but increasingly also in industrial applications. Until recently, however, these often took the form of expensive special solutions for selected individual application and small production orders.
The increasing number of potential application areas and the growing demand for cost-effective adaptive solutions equipped with great additional benefits must lead to an efficient implementation in mass production and thus to a significant expansion of the industrial basis.
In this context, Adaptronics International GmbH holds great appeal with highly experienced and well-trained personnel, rapid structures and corresponding equipment at the highest level. Separate production and quality assurance structures round off the customer service. This is what makes time- and cost-efficient high-performance solutions possible and along with the technological unique selling point represents a significant expansion of the existing market offer.
